Best Locations for Dallas Senior Pictures

Are you ready for your close-up? Choosing the right location for your senior portraits is about more than just a pretty background—it’s about matching your personality. As a Dallas senior photographer, I’ve scouted every corner of the DFW Metroplex to find the most photogenic spots.

Where are the Best locations for Dallas senior pictures?” is also one of the first questions parents typically ask. There are lots of fun locations we can choose for your senior session and below are some of my favorites. It all depends, of course, on your high school senior’s personality and interests.

Here is my updated list of the best locations for Dallas senior pictures, ranging from urban grit to secret garden escapes, starting furthest north of the Dallas Metroplex and heading south toward the infamous downtown areas.

Downtown McKinney Square

You get a fun gritty, urban texture that makes senior portraits look like a magazine spread.

Downtown McKinney is arguably the most versatile spot in North Texas. It’s where “Old Texas” meets modern editorial. Within two blocks, you can get three completely different looks. I love the “hidden” corners here with faded painted signs on brick, industrial metal doors, and those narrow walkways that create perfect leading lines. It’s a great spot if you’re bringing a mix of casual and dressy outfits.

Downtown McKinney boasts the famous spiral Staircase, and several colorful murals tucked between Louisiana St and Virginia St that add a pop of personality. ivy-covered brick and old fire escapes.

Pro-Tip: McKinney is incredibly popular. If you want the staircase without a “line” of other photographers, I recommend a Sunrise Session or a Tuesday/Wednesday evening. Several blocks in the downtown McKinney area dedicated to shopping and dining right by the courthouse is a fabulous location!

Frisco Central Park

Bold, structured, and scenic. The stone amphitheater provides these long, clean neutral lines that make any outfit color pop.

Across from Stonebriar Mall in Frisco, this small interurban park has stone walls, water features, ponds, grasses, and an amphitheater. Lots of great textures, nature landscapes, and settings for portraits. This isn’t your neighborhood playground. It’s a nicely landscaped space. Between the huge bronze cattle and the stone architecture, it feels very “Texas-Grand.” I use the bronze sculptures not just as “statues,” but as foreground elements to give the photos a sense of depth and drama. There’s also a small creek and some bridges if you want to break up the stonework with some softer, natural elements.

Pro-Tip: The light hits the amphitheater steps perfectly in the late afternoon, creating a natural “studio” look outdoors.

Watters Creek

Sophisticated, trendy, and polished. It’s perfect for the senior who wants a “day in the life” feel but with an upscale twist.

Located in Allen, Texas, this retail and dining area has some great options to walk about for color, greenery, a pond, and a few fun murals. If your teen likes to shop, this a fun place to go! You get a variety of textures including wood-slat walls, clean glass storefronts, and a central pond with lush greenery all within a two-minute walk. It’s one of the most efficient places to shoot because we can change “scenes” so quickly.

Pro-Tip: This is a great spot for fashion-forward seniors with modern walkways, great during that “blue hour” right after sunset. Look at the fun staircase image we got of Haley in the parking lot!

Shops of Legacy (Plano)

Urban-chic with Bishop Park adding a huge pond and stone trails to the mix.

The Shops at Legacy offers a bit more of an urban “hustle” than Watters Creek. It feels like a miniature city, which is great for seniors who want a cosmopolitan look without driving into Downtown Dallas. The small interurban park features a pond and shopping area. The combination of the lake views and the clean, paved streets gives us two completely different galleries in one session. The lighting here is especially “glowy” in the late afternoon because the buildings provide a lot of soft, open shade.

Pro-Tip: The lakeside at Bishop Park is one of my favorite spots for a more serene, thoughtful portrait before we head into the “city” streets for the high-energy shots.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Earthy and timeless. There are no buildings or power lines in sight just you and the horizon.

Located in far west Plano, this 200-acre park has creeks, natural stone structures, and tall prairie grasses make Arbor Hills the crown jewel of Plano for a reason. It’s the perfect spot for seniors who want a session that feels airy, organic, and timeless. Unlike a manicured city park, Arbor Hills is rugged and adventurous.

Magic happens just before sunrise, as in Avery’s shot below facing east, or about an hour before sunset we can catch that perfect golden light as it hits the tall, blonde prairie grass, creating a soft, golden glow that is incredibly flattering for portraits. See Caroline, Sophia, and Julianna’s photos below.

Pro-Tip: Avoid the crowds! Because Arbor Hills is so beautiful, it can get busy. To give you the best experience, I suggest weekday sessions or early mornings to find the quieter, less-traveled paths.

St. Andrew Methodist Church (Plano)

Established, elegant, and grand. The massive white columns and stone staircases are perfect for classic graduation announcements or formal attire.

If you want that “Ivy League” collegiate feel, this is the spot. The white columns and stone work are as classic as it gets. Located in West Plano, this church campus has beautiful grounds with a pond, creek, and stairs, and offers a mix of grand architecture and quiet, manicured nature.

Pro-Tip: Because of the light-colored stone, this location acts like a giant natural reflector, making skin tones look creamy and bright even on overcast days.

Downtown Plano & Haggard Park

It’s nostalgic but clean. I love using the bright colors of the vintage train car for a pop of personality, or the gazebo in Haggard Park for something more traditional.

Downtown Plano is one of my favorite “best of both worlds” spots. You have the historic red brick streets of the Arts District on one side and the big, wrap-around porch of the Interurban Railway Museum on the other. If you can’t decide between “Nature” and “Urban,” Downtown Plano is your answer. It’s compact, walkable, and offers a ton of variety in a small footprint. Dart trains run regularly, offering a fun moving backdrop.

Pro-Tip: The light here is great even in the middle of the day because the buildings and large trees provide plenty of open shade and is great for Golden Hour. The sun hits the brick buildings just right about 45 minutes before sunset and you can get a “nighttime” look with twinkling lights if you schedule for sunset.

Prairie Creek Park (Richardson)

Adventurous and organic. Beyond the water, there are some really cool stone and wood bridges with paths that make it feel like you’ve left the city entirely.

Creeks, waterfalls, bridges, and stone in woody areas. Located in Richardson, Texas, this is a great place for a mix of scenic outdoor photography. Most people don’t expect to find a waterfall in the middle of a Richardson neighborhood, but Prairie Creek delivers.

Pro Tip: This is a popular location on the weekends, so if you can manage your schedule, weekdays and evenings is the best time to have it all to yourself and not wait in line!

Dallas Arboretum

Elegant and polished. Every corner of this place is designed to be a backdrop. I love the stone archways and the views of White Rock Lake in the background.

The Dallas Arboretum is over 60 acres of botanical gardens set off of White Rock Lake. There is an entrance fee but this venue is full of water features, lovely architecture, green lawns and beautiful flowers everywhere. There are seasonal displays that can make a session here especially fun. If you want flowers, this is the gold standard.

Pro-Tip: There is a professional photography fee, and you have to book a time slot. It’s a bit more work logistically, but the variety of colors you get here is something you can’t find anywhere else in North Texas.

Deep Ellum

Urban, gritty, and artistic with awesome “imperfections” with industrial textures, exposed brick and fire escapes.

Located in Downtown Dallas, Deep Ellum has super vibrant wall murals by local artists, restaurants, sculptures and that artsy, edgy urban vibe for high school seniors. What makes Deep Ellum special is that it’s never the same twice. With over 40 curated murals from the 42 Murals project, the backdrops are constantly being refreshed by local and international artists. Murals are bold, graphic, and high-energy. It’s all one-of-a-kind, meaning you can get imagery that is distinctly you because this Dallas neighborhood is ever-changing!

Pro-Tip: Parking can be tough, but I usually tell people to meet me at the lots under the highway so we can start the “mural walk” right away. I recommend weekday morning sessions for the best light and the quietest streets.

Pacific Plaza

Futuristic and sharp with the massive stainless steel “Halo” pavilion creating architectural leading lines, and a small park with grasses and trees.

Pacific Plaza is one of the newest urban parks in Downtown Dallas, and it is a dream for seniors who want a mix of lush greenery and sharp, futuristic architecture. It feels less like a traditional park and more like a high-end outdoor set offering so many fun textures, architectural lines, and grasses to use as backdrops for portraits. You can get a nature-inspired shot in the grass and then turn 180 degrees for a high-rise city view. It’s incredibly walkable and usually less crowded than Klyde Warren, giving us more time to focus on getting the perfect shot without people in the background.

Pro-Tip: This is one of the best spots for guys. The sharp angles of the skyscrapers reflecting in the pavilion offer a strong, confident backdrop that feels very “city-chic.”

Dallas Arts District

Sophisticated, polished, and unmistakably high-end. Between the red glass of the Winspear Opera House and the clean, geometric concrete of the Wyly Theatre, there’s a level of refinement here that you just won’t find at a park.

If you want your photos to look editorial, the Arts District is the place. It’s the largest contiguous urban arts district in the country, and the architecture here is world-class.

Dallas’ downtown cultural hub is a fun walkabout with great locations for senior pictures! The Meyerson, Winspear Opera House Reflection Pool, Dallas Museum of Art, including a mural across from the Meyerson that changes every few years. It’s also in close walking distance to Klyde Warren Park, Nasher Sculpture Center to name a few. So much fun to be had in this location.

I love playing with the reflections in the glass buildings. It’s a very curated urban look, less about the “grit” of the city and more about a clean, architectural aesthetic that looks incredible in a large-format print.

Pro-Tip: This is a great spot for those “Skyline” views without actually being on a bridge. The views from the heart of the district give you that massive skyscraper scale right behind you.

Klyde Warren Park

Not just a park over a highway, Klyde Warren is actually one of the most versatile spots in the city if you know when to go.

During the day, the light bounces off the skyscrapers and creates a really clean, bright aesthetic. It’s perfect for those high-contrast shots where you want your outfit to pop. We can use the arches for symmetry or the glass railings to get the city moving underneath you. But if you like the glitz of night time, once the sun goes down, the park turns into a totally different set. The orange chairs, the glowing arches, and the skyline lights give everything a cinematic feel. It’s a bit more technical to shoot at night, but the results are way more unique than a standard park photo.

Pro-Tip: It gets crowded. I usually suggest a weekday or aiming for that sweet spot right at sunset so we can get both looks in one go.

The Bridges (Ronald Kirk & Margaret Hunt Hill Bridges)

This is the most iconic Dallas view you can get. It’s massive, architectural, and very bold.

The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge: You’ve seen those soaring white arches, which are the most recognizable part of our city’s architecture. While we don’t shoot on the bridge itself, using those dramatic white cables as a backdrop from the nearby levies creates a serious “wow” factor.

High-contrast senior portraits on the Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge with the Dallas skyline.

Rondald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge: Since there are no cars on the Ronald Kirk bridge, we have plenty of room to move around and get the skyline perfectly centered behind you.

  • High-Contrast Lighting: A lot of people hide from the midday sun, but I got you! The bright light hits the white cables and concrete to create sharp, graphic shadows. It gives the photos a high-end, commercial look.
  • Pro-Tip: Wear something with clean lines or a bold color. The neutral concrete and blue sky will make you stand out.

Bishop Arts District

For a bohemian, artsy, and eclectic vibe, Bishop Arts is the winner.

This neighborhood is a playground of textures, from vintage storefronts to lush hidden corners. It’s a photography playground; there is so much interest here, especially for the artistic soul.

Just a few steps away from the main shops, you’ll find pockets of greenery and world-class street art. You can start with a nature-heavy look among the vines and transition into a bold, colorful mural shot within just a few steps.

Protip: Most photographers pack up when the sun goes down, but as you can see, that’s when Bishop Arts really starts to show off and the neon signs and shop windows start to produce moody and cinematic looks.
